Holy Fuck Apple "Gets It"

I've just installed iLife '09 and holy fuck I think Apple gets it.
If you watch this video and don't agree, please me know.

To be fair, there are some spots that need polishing, but overall they have the right idea but the level of detail from the screen shot blows me away as I haven't don't anything but have it scan my old pictures.

iPhone 3G

So since my T-Mobile contract was over so took the 45 minutes to wait in line at the Pentagon City mall and joined the iPhone 3G masses.
Right now I'm looking for suggestions on accessories specifically docks, cases and headphones with mics.

iPhone 3G Anticipation

Though I'm pretty sure the people at my old office had a pool going over how quickly it would take me to buy an iPhone, I've managed to hold out this long. Though the holding out is about to end on August 17th right after my T-Mobile contract ends. I'll be heading to my local Apple store and picking one up.

Ajax as the iPhone SDK

As anyone who has written apps for phones will tell you, it is big ole pain in the ass and you often have to use a bunch of proprietary software and hope that they work on all kinds of different models of phone and then you'll likely have to do it again for when you want to support another brand of phone. Using Ajax means you've already got a bunch of developers who already know the environment, the language and platform.
It was also a good excuse to port Safari to Windows and has the following bonus reasons.

  • iTunes IS the music app, they will get some "halo effect users" and Windows kids can now pretend to be cool like their Mac friends

  • Windows shops can now test their site for Safari compatibility and not have to have a Mac laying around

  • Send a big fuck you to Microsoft who gave up support of IE for Mac not too long ago

I think it was a pretty damn good idea.

iTV, Steve Jobs and DRM

There was a big to do over Steve Jobs denouncing DRM despite the fact that iTunes content has a DRM layer. I think though that his denouncement had more to this.
Apple is releasing Apple TV soon and clearly wants to take it the same path as they did with the iPod and iTunes, but the key part to the iPod's success was "Rip Mix Burn" The ripping part being the most important. The ability to rip your current content meant you didn't need to buy your music again from the iTunes Music Store and that getting your music there was made dead simple put a CD and click a button. Apple TV will have an issue with this because of DRM. Ripping a DVD falls into a gray area and as such is not likely to be a feature of iTunes anytime soon, but if getting your current DVD collection into iTunes was as simple a ripping a CD, Apple knows this thing would be the killer device. And I think this was the point Jobs was trying to make about DRM.
