Lou Dobbs Doesn't Get It

Dobbs: Our flag belongs to all Americans
--
"I don't know about you, but I find it difficult to imagine something as simple as support for our flag and the national values it represents would disqualify anyone from delivering the news, nor in any way confer a higher order of patriotism upon the individual wearing such a pin."
--

Lou you almost, almost got it but the a MAJOR point you are missing, there is nothing wrong with wearing the American flag on your lapel and there is most certainly nothing wrong with supporting the national values it represents. What you fail to see, is that it has become apparent that many people now simply think that "wearing the flag" makes them patriotic _regardless_ of their actions and that is why the all of the flag waving has gotten a bum rep. As the troops that I support, as much as you do, would surely agree, wearing the uniform isn't what makes one a solider, it is the action that one takes.

Read the flag code of conduct Section 8 (link below). A lapel pin is not explicetly disallowed, but I believe it does.Since there is no penalty, people are free to do as they choose. I choose to take a strict interpertation when showing respect for the flag.

It would be great if people start showing their patriotism and respect by their actions and not by just creating an illusion.
I really don't care what pin you wear.

Thanks for the comment if anything then, wearing the lapel pin would disrespect for the flag rather than honor.

That was my point exactly. Displaying a flag doesn't make you patriotic acting the part does.
