Fighting Bob La Follette

"The purpose of this campaign is to throw the country into a state of terror, to coerce public opinion, to stifle criticism, and suppress discussion. People are being unlawfully arrested, thrown into jail, held incommunicado for days, only to be eventually discharged without ever having been taken into court, because they have committed no crime. But more than this, if every preparation for war can be made the excuse for destroying free speech and a free press and the right of the people to assemble together for peaceful discussion, then we may well despair of ever again finding ourselves for a long period in a state of peace. The destruction of rights now occurring will be pointed to then as precedents for a still further invasion of the rights of the citizen."

Lesser of Two Evils

Condom wrapper in the street

If I told you that I felt the need to debate which was less evil doctors wearing gloves while working or doctors not wearing gloves while working with the risk factor being the spread of a communicable disease with no known cure. You would look at me like I was out of my fucking my mind the only clear answer is of course the doctors should wear the gloves and promoting the doctors wearing the gloves would be the ONLY sane and rational choice.

So why then is this a debate? Questions raised about which is lesser evil: condoms, AIDS of course wearing condoms and promoting their use is a good thing, it will help prevent people from fucking dying! (or dying fucking) How is this even a debate? How? Please, please explain it to me?

A Young True Patriot

The young woman who runs this site is a true patriot and should be promoted as an example to young people to aspire to, rather than spending hours with live journal or myspace she is trying make positive change in the world. But unfortunately this leads me to have to ask why does the right hate the US and peace

This daring and talented fifteen year old instead gets emails that say things like this “Fuck you, I would jack off on your parents if I could. If you don’t like the team, get out of the park. That means take ur small dick and get the fuck off of my homeland you faggot chocolate gulper.”

First off, anyone who would sends emails to fifteen year old girls describing sexual acts such as masturbation should be red flagged as potential pedophiles. Secondly this person clearly has never taken a sexual education class as he or she would know that girls do not have dicks. And lastly chocolate is good and hating on people who gulp it are fucked up.

"The women are the problem in history," he said in 2004. "Women who don't want to have children should cut away their breasts, bottoms and love organ because the purpose for those was first for the children. If they don't fulfill that purpose, then they are not needed."

And for the abstinence only kids, the voucher kids and the ID home schooled kids "love organ = vagina"

Actors

To those who say actors shouldn't speak out in politics I would like to point out the following.
1) Two future governors were both in the movie "Predator" (hint for the ID taught and voucher kids "Schwarzenegger" and "Ventura")
2) Reagan was an actor
3) John Wilkes Booth was an actor.

American Family Ass

Yep its time for another American Family Ass post.
Today's American Family Ass. "Action Alert" is alerting me to the fact that "The Da Vinci Code" movie "makes several false claims" um, well Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman of the American Family Ass. The novel, of the same name, on which the movie is based, you see, is a thing called fiction. Fiction for those who are not in the know is defined as "literature in the form of prose, esp. short stories and novels, that describes imaginary events and people." So the book doesn't make any claims, it is simply a story. Now I know, I know, you take your stories very seriously and I can see how you are confused, because you really like to think that your favorite piece of fiction "The Bible" is also not just a story. So you are pointing people to the movie "The Da Vinci Delusion" which refutes the "facts" presented in the "The Da Vinci Code"

For those of us who are critical thinkers, let me break this down for you, for the sake of argument say you are huge Batman fan, you have read every comic and think Batman is the greatest superhero, And along comes someone who writes a new comic that makes Batman look like an asshole. I could see how you could be annoyed with the situation, maybe even make a blog post that refutes the points made in the comic book. But at the same time you would realize that while you are Batman fan, you are still dealing with fantasy world and that there are no real facts only pretend.

If only I could get Donald E Wildmon to see that, he too is playing in the world of make believe.

Open Letter

Dear Person Who Was in the Elevator Before Me,

Hi, I got in the elevator after you, not immediately we didn't pass each other in the doorway but I know you were there not too long ago, because I could smell that you had marked your territory. For the record, personal scents are meant to be personal, as in I should only be able to smell them once I'm in your personal space. Additionally, though I know there have been problems with West Nile Virus in DC in the past, I still don't think that Deep Woods Off should be your "scent" and applied a whole can at time

Just Read This

Screw AT&T

This article talks about how Google, eBay and Amazon might just start their own network. It mentions that Google has the cash in the bank to do it too. Having drunk the Mac kool-aid it made me wonder if Apple had that much cash as well (they appear to) there have been rumors about them getting into the wireless phone space and they were building out a data center, what if they were to build out WiMax (or the like) that would work easily with Macs, iPods (upgrade those puppies) and iPhone. They could even do it along the lines of a .Mac deal where $250 a year would get you a .Mac account and a connection to it. You could buy music directly from your iPod. Of course this would be a huge differentiator for Apple's product line and boost it core business of selling hardware while offering a new revenue line via services. I'm just saying.

Something I Haven't Heard Mentioned Yet

There have been rumblings about the US planning to invade Iran, but the they are usually questioned because there is the response of "Where are we going to get the manpower?" Umm, reinstate the draft maybe?
Additionally this could also be reigned into the immigration reform issues. Grant amnesty, pay a fine and boom! you're drafted to the Army, welcome to the US.

I Was Standing in the Shower Thinking

It occurred to me that things like this blog and my flickr account will be around for a long as time, and while I probably share more of my life online than most people a lot of people use blogger and flickr. Anyway I was thinking about how cool it would have been had these things existed in the past, imagine reading your grandpa's blog from when he was in Korea, or looking at the posts and comments to your grandma's flickr stream from when she was a saucy coed. It would give an insight that you just don't get from looking through shoe boxes of photos.

How Linda Cropp Lost My Vote

The bill also would make it the buyer or seller's responsibility to prove that the items will not be used for illegal drugs, instead of requiring the police to prove the particular item's illegal use.
Mr. Mendelson and Council Chairman Linda W. Cropp, a Democrat who is running for mayor, introduced the bill last week.

Linda, Linda, Linda think for a second about what you are saying, you introduced a bill that make people prove they are innocent this runs amok of the Supreme Court's decision on Coffin v. United States which points to the presumption of innocence as a key element of our legal system. To put this example in terms that show you how backwards this can be. Kitchen knives can be used for cooking, but they can also be used for murder. You wouldn't for a minute try to make it Bed, Bath and Beyond's responsibility to prove that knife purchasers will not use their knives for murder would you? Could imagine a day where the police would be allowed to search your home for kitchen knives and then you would have to prove that you weren't going to use them for murder? Think about the precedent you are setting. Additionally what is substantial proof, using the doctrine of innocent until proven guilty the District has to prove _beyond as reasonable doubt_ that you are guilty. Under your bill the what will be the burden of proof of innocence, how can you reasonably prove your "future intentions" beyond a reasonable doubt? This just bad legislation pure and simple.

Update A friend asked me if the ban also includes lighters? This would have been a better example than the knives

Elvis was a Hero to Most

" Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Motherfuck him and John Wayne"

"Fight The Power" - Public Enemy

I was getting hated on because I think Elvis is/was overrated and had no talent especially when compared to The Beatles. I explained that no one ever says that they were influenced by Elvis, but almost everyone says they were influenced by The Beatles so I conducted an experiment. I searched via Google for two phrases "influenced by Elvis" and "influenced by The Beatles"
Elvis 671
The Beatles 41,700

Google doesn't lie.

Rumsfeld: Iran attack talk in 'fantasy land'

Okay Rumsfeld said "But it is just simply not useful to get into fantasy land."

What I think people fail to see is that fantasy land is where Rumsfeld and the Addict's Administration live. Here are some fantasy facts that one should consider that this group believes.

Hussein was responsible for 9/11
There were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq
We would be greeted with rose petals, in Iraq
The major combat of the war is over
Democracy would just fall in place
Creationism and Ignorant Design (aka Intelligent Design, sigh) are based in science
Global warming is a myth
Propaganda is a good policy idea
The President doesn't have to obey the law

So you see the talk of fantasy land is where the Addict's Administration lives and as such all questions that deal with fantasy land are fair game. So at the next press release I expect to see Queen Sara Saturday and King Friday XIII taking the train to the land of make believe.

Thank You

Dear Protesters,

While I don't have strong feelings on the issue (I know a first), it was an impressive site to see so many people out marching peacefully, in support of an issue. The irony of it being is that it is safe to say a fair amount the people showing how free expression in the US should work weren't even US citizens.

Thanks,
DC Dan

Parallels is Super Fast

This video is spot on, running XP in Parallels on my MacBook Pro is faster then when I run it over Citrix and faster than any Window machines I've run it on and this was before I discovered I only gave it 256MB of RAM.

The only beefs are things that they say in the forums will be supported in the future. (to be fair this is a beta)
No full screen yet
No sound yet
No USB yet
No disk resize tool yet.

This app is fucking amazing and I'll certainly shell out the $50 when it is in production.

As a test I was able to watch WMV pr0n without a problem.

Can anyone recommend a benchmarking tool to run?

"The greatest trick the church ever pulled was convincing the world that He did exist" - DC Dan
